The HSIA method is a technique originally proposed in ESA standards that is started to be carefully considered in ESA projects. It aims at analysing the interaction between the hardware and the software of critical systems. Indeed, evidence must be provided in order to prove that the FDIR1 functionalities of current and future software systems built on specific hardware are working properly. rnThis paper describes the principles of HSIA, its main drawbacks, and provides significant improvements to the original HSIA method. It is illustrated by a case study based on a multiprocessor space system consisting of an ESA satellite instrument. The experimental results obtained point out the parts of the system that need to be subject to improvement.
