摘要

In this talk, we report the product distributions and decomposition rates of decabromodiphenyl ether when it is incapsulated in a common plastic, high impact polystyrene, and irradiated under controlled conditions using a calibrated source. The objective is to gain additional insights into the mechanisms by which decabromodiphenyl ether can migrate from plastics into the environment either as the intact molecule, or after undergoing photolytic transformation to produce other polybrominated diphenyl ethers and/or dibenzofurans. This information is critical to efforts directed at identifying sources of these compounds and estimating their contributions to the environmental problem.
