We evaluated LEDs emitting white light with high S/P ratios for the mesopic vision. We designed a set of field experiments in which we investigated the influence of spectral power distributions of lighting on the brightness of actual streets using LED light sources with correlated color temperatures (CCTs) of 5000K and 8000K (LED5000, LED8000) and fluorescent lamps with a CCT of 4200K (FL4200). The results of the experiments showed that LED8000 provided brighter spaces and a better feeling of security than LED5000 or FL4200. As recent studies on the mesopic vision already showed, this is because LED8000 has a higher S/P ratio than LED5000 or FL4200.
