摘要

This study aims identifying the mechanisms of discomfort glare sensation. This study conducted evaluations of discomfort glare under various conditions for spectral power distribution and presentation position of glare sources. As the glare source, blue, cyan, yellow, and red LEDs were employed. In the experiment, 18 young subject and 18 older subjects participated. The results of the experiment showed that older subjects appeared to be more sensitive to glare than young subjects did. In addition, based on the results of the experiments, this study attempted to define the visual mechanisms of discomfort glare sensation in terms of the spectral sensitivities of retinal receptors. The visual mechanisms imply that cones (including S-cones) and rods contribute to the sensation of discomfort glare.
