We endeavored to establish optimum design methods for light-diffusing skylights to reducernthe amount of electricity used for lighting and achieve the required uniform illuminance as anrnappropriate illumination environment. For that purpose, we derived luminous intensityrndistributions of skylights under the CIE standard clear sky by an optical simulation based onrnthe optical properties of the skylights. In addition, we empirically confirmed the validity of thisrndesign approach for a distribution warehouse, and found that the lighting systems combiningrnthe diffused skylights and artificial lightings with dimming control reduced the electrical energyrnof the artificial lighting by 61 percent.
