Experimental work was carried out torncompare judgements of spatial brightnessrnunder photopic and mesopic conditions,rnusing sequential and simultaneousrnevaluations of stimulus pairs. These datarnwere used to compare two mechanisms thatrnhave been proposed for processing therneffect of lamp spectral power distribution onrnjudgements of spatial brightness; thernchromatic system and changes in pupil size.rnThe test results did not suggest a significantrndifference in brightness judgementsrnbetween simultaneous and sequentialrnevaluations and this suggests that thernchromatic contribution to brightness isrnstronger than the pupil size effect.
