SUSTAINABLE LIGHTING IN RETAIL SPACES - CASE STUDY EVALUATIONS

Heating, cooling and lighting of buildingsrnconstitute a considerable portion of thernenergy consumption. Energy efficient designrngains in importance for reducing of both CO2rnemissions and high energy costs. Thernelectricity used for lighting needs have arnlarge percentage of the buildings' totalrnenergy consumption, therefore lightingrnsystems should be designed carefully.rnThere are several certification methodsrnto assess the sustainability of the buildingsrnwhich differ according to the lighting relatedrncategories and the percentages of theserncategories in the overall buildingrnassessment. In this context, Lighting andrnEnergy Consumption requirements ofrnBREEAM Retail 2009 and LEEDrnCommercial Interiors 2009 are investigatedrnfor retail spaces. Retail buildings arernimportant energy users because of theirrnlong-period and common usage. As a casernstudy the parameters determined by thernmethods are evaluated on a retail centre inrnTurkey.rnThis study aims to emphasize thernparameters of sustainable lighting design forrnretail spaces, which should provide thernvisual comfort conditions while minimizingrnthe energy consumption.
