The use of split-type air-conditioners in newrnapartment buildings becomes popular in HongrnKong. One requirement for their effective use isrnsatisfactory heat rejection at the outdoorrncondensing units. When a group of outdoor units isrnworking together, the heat released by onerncondenser may affect the heat rejection rates at thernothers, and hence may deteriorate their performance.rnAt the layout-design stage, an HVAC engineerrnoften finds it difficult to predict such a thermalrneffect, say, when over a hundred of these outdoorrnunits are to be placed inside one single re-entrant ofrna high-rise building. This paper presents arnsimulation approach to tackle the problem. Therncomputation technique is demonstrated by itsrnapplication to evaluate the effect of proper spacingrnbetween adjacent condensing units.
