SIMULAE AIR A THREE DIMENSIONAL TRANSIENT AiR FLOW PROGRAM

SIMULAR AIR is a computer code for calculating the threerndimensional transient indoor air flow using a k,e - turbulencernmodel. It solves the nonlinear partial differential equations forrnmomentum, energy, continuity, turbulence and air purity by anrnimplicit time marching technique. The equations are modeled by arnfinite volume procedure. The model handles a variety of flow,rntemperature and heat flux boundary conditions includingrnprescribed inflows and outflows. All boundary conditions can berndefined time dependent. The computer code is able to handlernobstacles in the flow region to simulate furniture. The results arernpresented graphically on the screen or as numerical output on arnprinter or a file.rnSIMULAR AIR is available for workstations but can also bernrun on a standard PC with an 80386 processor and either an Intelrn80387 or a Weitek coprocessor under an extended DOS operatingrnsystem. All modules of the program (preprocessing, calculationrnand graphical output) are menue driven and provide online help.rnThe program has been used to calculate air movement,rndistribution of temperature and fraction of fresh air in a threerndimensional model room with alternating air supply and exhaust.rnResults of two calculations on a PC with respectively alternatingrnand static air supply show only minor differences. They agreernwell with experimental investigations of the same room in bothrncases. The only influence of the alternating ventilation shows uprnto be a faster reaching the final distribution.
