This work is a preliminary study on generating transfer functions of BC sound using 3D models and compact models. The results of this project fill an important gap in our knowledge regarding head vibration patterns and bone conduction transmission to the cochlea. The current study gives the transfer functions of bone conduction at several different locations of device stimulation. The results show that structural response of the current model is sensitive to the frequency change of the input stimulations. The resultant transfer functions will be used to predict speech intelligibility and evaluated empirically through validation studies involving human listeners. Such effort has been in progress with our collaborators in The Georgia Tech Sonification Lab. The modeling and validation framework will be useful for improving the design of BC communication systems to be used in military environments.
