Total Organic Carbon (TOC) is a useful water quality parameter used in a variety of industries includingrnpetrochemical, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and pulp and paper. While TOCrnanalyzers are in wide use throughout industrial plants, many individuals are not familiar with therndetailed methodology of the analyzers. A brief description of various methods will be discussed. Thisrnpaper serves as a tutorial describing the High Temperature Catalytic Oxidation (HTCO) methodologyrnusing NDIR detection, as applied to on-line applications.
