The composition and preparation of aqueous Al2O3 slurry for fabricating foam ceramic is illustrated in this work. Through tests of rheological properties and analysis of SEM and XRD, it can be defined that the industrial alumina powders calcined in atmosphere is more suitable to be used as the aggregate for preparing foam ceramic. The relationships between the content of rheological agent (CMC), dispersing agent (PAM), pH value and viscosity of the slurry basically composed by the industrial alumina powders treated in atmosphere were measured by using NDJ-8S type digital viscome-ter. The optimal amount of additives and pH value preparing Al2O3 slurry with lower viscosity and higher content of solid phase are also given in the paper.
