Metal bonded refractory is an important aspect of developing new types of refractory.In this paper,Al-MgO composite materials with the size of 40 mm× 40 mm × 155 mm were prepared using fused magnesia and Al powders as starting materials, liquid phenol formaldehyde resin as the binder.Mixture specimens with the size of Φ20 × 10 mm were prepared using fused magnesia powders and Al powders as starting materials, liquid phenol formaldehyde resin as the binder.Then physical property of the specimens with different content of aluminum, phase composition and microstructure of the mixture specimens sintered at 1423K, 1623K and 1823K with coke embedded were investigate respectively.Results showed that Al-MgO composite materials have the best performance with 5% Al addition, and compares to MgO-C composite material,it has a better mechanical property at both room and high temperature.The study oft he matrix specimens showed that the specimens sintered at 1623K with carbon embedded have the most compact microstructure, the major products of the specimen sintered at high temperature were magnesia-alumina spinel and aluminum carbide, and the spinel phase formed at high temperature increased the hot mechanical properties of Al-MgO composite specimens.
