Additional Material of Macranhinga paranensis (Aves: Pelecaniformes: Anhingidae) from the Upper Miocene Ituzaingo Formation of Entre Rios Province, Argentina

Macranhinga paranensis (Pelecaniformes: Anhingidae) was part of a Miocene radiation of large-bodied darters or snakebirds from South America. The holotypical tarsometa-tarsus came from a basal stratigraphic unit ("Mesopotamian") of the Upper Miocene Ituzaingo Formation. Additional fossil materials, including pelvic girdles, femora, tibiotarsi, humeri, and carpometacarpi, are described and illustrated. Analysis of the wing-leg proportions reveals that Macranhinga paranensis shares, with the remaining paleospecies of the radiation, the condition of having short wings relative to its legs.
