As Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) service spreads, the amount ofrndamage caused by wildlife to optical cables is also increasing.rnWildlife that damage optical networks are classified into threerngroups (rodents, insects, and birds), and damage occurs allrnthroughout Japan. We have investigated the type of damage andrnhave studied countermeasures. Such countermeasures willrncontribute greatly to reducing maintenance costs and improving thernreliability of optical cables in FTTH networks.
