The Community Access Television (CATV a.k.a. cable TV)rnmarket has evolved from a strictly video provider to include voicernand data delivery over the past ten years. Up until now, thernnormal bandwidth of 5 to 860 MHz has been enough to satisfy allrnthe features the Multiple Systems Operators i.e., Comcast, TimernWarner, etc. could provide to their customers. With the greaterrndemand for higher data rates, narrowcasting, HDTV and MoCArn(Multimedia over Coax), the service providers are now wanting torngo beyond 1 GHz to as high as 3 GHz. Correspondingly, there isrngreater demand for higher density backplane connectivity.rnThe traditional non-pinned F connector preferred in the industry isrnnow being phased out by the equipment manufacturers in favor ofrnhigher frequency, smaller form factor, and lower loss connectors.rnDevelopment has targeted these requirements which have resultedrnin a family of connector products that could allow the industry tornmove ahead with increasing the feature set and Quality of Servicern(QOS).rnA Pinned F connector, mini-BNC, mini-Latching Connector, andrn75-ohm MCX will be compared and contrasted against thernstandard F through the use of simulation coupled with empiricalrnelectrical, mechanical, and environmental data. It will be shownrnthat these connectors each have its range of applications and as arncollective will allow equipment manufacturers to future-proofrntheir infrastructure and services.
