Biochar as a Climate Change Mitigation Technology: What are the Implications for Pesticide Management in Soil?

@@ Biochar is an emerging technology worldwide for mitigation of climate change. The potential role of biochar in sequestration of carbon, reducing the emission of greenhouse gases and improving the soil fertility is increasingly being acknowledged. Consequently, soil amendment with certain types of biochars is being seen as a favourable option from agronomic and environmental standpoints. While a lot of research work has been published in recent years on the agronomic benefits of biochars, little attention has so far been paid towards some of the potential unintended consequences of such a practice, especially on the environmental fate and efficacy of herbicides.
