The data collected in this study indicates that an anterior plate alone is not sufficient to return the stability of spinal motion segments to that of an intact healthy specimen when bilateral spondylolysis is present. When clinically attempting to induce a fusion in this setting, it is necessary to improve the segmental stiffness above that of intact. Therefore, it is unlikely that an anterior plate alone can provide sufficient stability to reliably achieve fusion.
