The Dulles Silver Line Phase II is an 11.4 mile extension of the Washington Area Metro TransitrnAuthority’s Silver line in northern Virginia. There are three miles of elevated guideway, whichrnare supported on 188 large diameter mono-shafts founded within the Triassic Geologic AgedrnCulpeper Fault Basin. Three lateral load tests were performed on fully instrumented test shafts.rnThe challenge in developing the load testing program was how to reproduce the effects of thernextremely high design loads along the test shafts, considering the limitations of the load testrnequipment. Development, execution, and analysis of the lateral load test program is discussed.
