Resin Toughening-an Effective Method to Improve Thermal Strain Stability of Heat Insulation Coatings

Resin toughening has been proved it' s validity to improve strain stability of heat insulation coatings, but the recipes of toughened resins haven't been known due to commercial secrets. In this paper, a liquid polysulfide rubber with high reactivity is used to modify brittle epoxy insulation coatings to get improved thermal strain stability. The coatings' mechanical properties, heat strain stabilities in temperature changing environment and in simulative aerodynamic environment are tested. Results show that as the content of polysulfide reaching 100% , the elongation ratio reaches 6%, and the toughened epoxy coatings have good toughness and high thermal strain stability. There are no evidence of crack or de-bonding in the coatings during related tests.
