For many years, Materialise has been developing its Digital CAD technology and commercializes it through the generic 3-matic software. This paper presents a more specific application of Digital CAD that offers design automation for what used to be a tedious and time consuming job: support generation. The method presented has several advantages over the classical tools:One of the recurring problems with Digital CAD is the large amounts of data that need to be handled.The highly automated support generation approach using the traditional Digital CAD really stretched the capacities of modern computers on memory consumption and computing power. e-Stage therefore extends the Digital CAD technology with a more computer friendly slice-based approach.
