DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AIR QUALITY DATA MART FOR ONTARIO CANADA

Every year, there are approximately 6000 additional deathsrnin Canada, because of short term exposure to air pollution.rnResearch suggests that 69% of these deaths come in thernform of cardio and cerebrovascular disease [1]. ThernOntario ministry of environment has historical air pollutantrndata available for the general public. It is available forrnmonitoring stations across Ontario. The data presented onrnthis website is on an hourly basis for the selected pollutantrnand time frame. However this data is hard to interpret. Itrncould cause confusion if an individual is unaware of thernacceptable Ambient Air Quality Criteria (AAQC). Thisrnpaper will highlight how the issue is resolved, by buildingrna data mart using open source On-Line AnalyticalrnProcessing (OLAP) tools. It will also discuss thernchallenges, limitations and steps taken during the designrnand development phase.
