The Meruap Oilfield has an average daily oilrnproduction between 3,000–3,500 BOPD (Barrel ofrnOil Per Day). To improve oil production in thisrnfield, Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery (CEOR)rntechnology was utilized, where a pre-pilot projectrn(field test), with injection of surfactant kind AlkylrnBenzene Sulfonic (ABS) petroleum base treatmentrnwas implemented. It was chosen based on thernlaboratory study (reference Table 1) conducted inrnthe Meruap Oilfield.rnSurfactant injection is used to reduce the interfacialrntension (IFT) of oil-fluids, where the oil is trappedrndue to capillary pressure and is unmovable, hencernthis trapped oil could be displaced by the surfactantrninjection. The miscibility of the surfactant with oilperformedrnemulsion will reduce the capillaryrnpressure. Based on the compatibility test, thernMeruap reservoir fluid (formation water) and oilrnsample, IFT test, and core analysis, Surfactant ABSrnwas used in the implementation of injection Huffrnand Puff surfactant in Well-1 and Well-2. It has arnconcentration of 0.3% weight, with a total volumernof surfactant solution about 3,000 bbl per wellrncandidate.rnImplementing chemical EOR in this case is the bestrnway to increase oil production. Monitoring resultsrnduring the two-month period in the field indicatedrninterfacial tension between oil and fluids (middlernphase in sample fluids) and a wellbore cleaningrneffect on the formation. Oil recovery after thernsurfactant injection was conducted at the Well-1rnwas 23–28 BOPD (93%), while before thernsurfactant injection, it was 14 BOPD. In Well-2, thernoil recovery after surfactant injection was 40–46rnBOPD (59%), while before the injection, it was 29rnBOPD. These phenomena need to be evaluated forrnfurther steps in the Meruap full field chemical EORrnimplementation.
