A MINIATURIZED DIRECT-READING PHOTOIONIZATION DETECTOR FOR AIR ANALYSIS

A miniature photoionization-based detection unit has been developed for sensing the Total Ionizables Present (TIP) in a given sample of air or other non-photoionizable gas.rnThe unit incorporates a new type of photoionization detector which uses an ultra high frequency driven electrodeless discharge tube to provide a very high photon flux. Detector, electronics, sample pump, display and rechargeable batteries are all contained in a single hand-held package whose weight is approximately three pounds.rnThe instrument was designed for field use in air quality surveillance applications.
