The continuous automated composition analyzer utilizing discrete sampling is ideal for internal standard calibration. The introduction of a pure reference material has several functions, such as indicating analyzer performance, providing malfunction diagnostics and allowing relative response factor calibration. Monitoring the reference component provides a visible measure of confidence to both maintenance and operations personnel. Use of appropriate sample/reference valve volumes and a pure reference fluid eliminates the need for preparing standard samples repeatedly.
