Hot Distortion-Important Parameter of Estimation Quality of Moulding and Core Sands

Research methods used for determining the suitability of the moulding sands to apply in casting are focused on studies used at environmental temperature.Few studies at increased temperatures do not fully reflect the behavior of the moulding sands during warming-up.The method of hot distortion developed by BCIRA, and then developed by the authors of this article, shows the preservation of the core sands at the initial stage of heating.The hot distortion measurement determines the level of thermal deformation and the deformation resistance of moulding and core sands.The article describes the method of hot distortion and shows the results of author's research on the moulding and core sands with different type of binder.Also test results for the moulding sands with protective coat are presented.The hot distortion method is good support for research conducted at environmental temperature, which a used to determinate if selected binder give us good strength of moulding sand.Presented results shows, that better strength in ambient temperature not always give better resistance on thermal deformation.
