Traditional measurement techniques were played an extremely important role in the deformation monitoring field during the past two decades.However, the coal resource was slowly draining away in central and eastern China, which has prompted a shift to the western region in strategy; more and more coal mines were established in the mountains, and there are countless mountains in western China.Then, the traditional measurement techniques can never get the information of surface deformation with high-precision and high-efficiency in the mining areas.Hence, effective techniques must be used to obtain deformation data.GPS (GPS RTK) technology offers an effective solution to this problem.In this paper, we will introduce GPS and its related theory firstly, then to establish the surface deformation system and to develop the corresponding software.Combining the specific case of mine exploitation, we provide a basic technique processes as well as data results, and verify the feasibility of the surface deformation monitoring and data analysis system established in this paper.Experiment results show that the3D high-precision datum and the regional quasi-geoid provide an efficient technical support for rapid acquisition of normal height and multi-source data fusion; and the results explain the availability of GPS deformation monitoring system in mining area, particularly in mountainous regions, to obtain the surface movement law in mining areas.
