Contribution of UIC Involvement Time to Knowledge Acquisition during NPD

Universities and research institutes are knowledge suppliers of enterprises.Referring to researches on supplier involvement time, this paper brings forward the concept of involvement time of university industrial cooperation (UIC).Based on the context of new product development (NPD), knowledge is classified into three types: functional, structural, and process knowledge.Following this, we discuss the impact of UIC involvement time on the acquisition of these three types of knowledge, and put forward research hypotheses and framework. The research preliminarily reveals the mechanism in which UIC involvement time depends on types of knowledge that enterprises need to acquire, and provides insight into future research.
