International and Domestic Price Transmission: A Study of Parboiled Rice,Jasmine Rice and Glutinous Rice in Thailand

This article aims to elucidate the relationship between Thai export rice prices and domestic farm gate paddy rice prices by using an asymmetric cointegration approach.Using monthly time series data of Thai rice prices for parboiled, jasmine and glutinous rice from 1998 to 2011, the export and farm gate price cointegration results suggest that there is only asymmetric pricing behavior for jasmine rice, whereas parboiled and glutinous rice have a symmetric relationship.For the jasmine rice causality test, the findings point out that the export price leads the farm gate price, however the farm gate price does not cause the export price.
