Stability Prediction of Slope Reinforced by Prestress Anchors in Open-pit Mine

Pre-stress anchors have been usually applied to reinforce the slope in geotechnical engineering, but they are hardly adopted to reinforce the slope in the open-pit mine. This paper introduced an application example of using pre-stress anchors to reinforce nonworking wall slope in the west opencast coal mine of Pingzhuang, analyzed and evaluated stability of the slope with reinforced and without un-reinforced under different geological conditions and supporting parameters by program SLOPE/W and limit equilibrium method. Results show that the stability of the slope reinforced by prestress anchors has been greatly improved, that safe factor rises from maximum 1.060 to minimum 3.354 for dry slope and rises from maximum 0.774 to minimum 3.220 for wet slope, and that the reinforcement parameters can meet the stability requirement of the slope, which indicates that there are the remarkable economic benefit and the social benefit by the pre-stress reinforcing the slope. The reinforcement technology has been applied and generalized in the mine.
