In this paper, a novel distributed resource allocation algorithm based on Superposition of Shadow Area (SSA) to enhance the experience of cell edge users (CEUs) and to make use of the frequency band more sufficiently in Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) cellular systems is presented. In OFDMA systems, most CEUs can not work normally if too many users are in edge area of the cell. Soft Frequency Reuse (SFR) interference coordination scheme is proposed in 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE). Because the cell edge users can only use a fraction of the entire frequency band, much more edge users will have lower rate and the throughput for CEUs is severely limited by the inter-cell interference (ICI) which must be effectively managed if we try to achieve improvements for cell edge throughput and more balanced data rates and service quality among CEUs and cell center users (CCUs). However, in our scheme, cell edge users can use the entire frequency band and they can choose the subchannels which can provide them better quality, so from the point of view that experience of CEUs and utilization of frequency band can be improved and we find that the cell edge throughput has been improved more than SFR scheme by simulation.
