The molten steel was dephosphorized by the high basic BaO-based slags (BaO-CaO-CaF_2) in order to achieve ultra low phosphorus level. The dephosphorization ability of the BaO-CaO-CaF_2 slags to the low phosphorus steel was investigated. The thermodynamics properties of the slags were analyzed. The phosphate capacity of the present system at 1620℃ varied from 10~(18.03) to 10~(19.11). and the activity coefficient of P_2O_5 ranged from 10~(-19.47) to 10~(-17.58). Effects of BaO content, the initial phosphorus content and the oxidrzability of the molten steel on dephosphorization were discussed. Minimum of the phosphorus pick-up by the BaO-based slags was studied.
