The design and implementation of an advanced splitrnmechanical seal has resulted in improved pumprnmanufacturability, serviceability, maintainability, biofoulingrnresistance and corrosion resistance. A split mechanical sealrnallows pump design improvements which result in fewerrncomponents, increased rotor stability, and a simplifiedrnassembly, resulting in overall improvements in unit operabilityrnand maintainability. The same advanced split seal technologyrncan also be used to retrofit existing pumping units and achievernsimilar enhanced serviceability, maintainability, biofoulingrnresistance and corrosion resistance without installing thernadditional improvements associated with rotor and driverrnredesign.rnSeal pressure × velocity (PV) values to 500,000 have beenrnsuccessfully executed in a biofouling corroding environment atrndesign pressures to 1000 psi and temperatures to 230 F atrnpump a speed of 1200 rpm with advanced design split seals.
