Variable Bit Rate Modem for Satellite Communication

摘要

A variable bit rate modem has been newly developed for satellite communication. It permits to change the bit rate easily in a range of 64kbps to 2.048Mbps without requiring change or readjustment of hardware at all. This modem has been dramatically reduced in size, weight and power consumption by fully utilizing the latest VLSI technology and digital implementation.This paper describes the outline, structure and design of this variable bit rate modem.Digital implementation has made it possible to cover the bit rate from 64kbps to 2.048Mbps.Excellent performances were obtained at the bit rate in the range of 64kbps to 2.048Mbps. This development has made it possible to change the channel capacity promptly, flexibly, easily and at low cost.
