An Integrated Architecture for the Provision of Mobile, Fixed and Transportable Satellite Personal Business Services

This paper is focused on the introduction of a new satelliteservice infrastructure: Personal Business Services (PBS).This infrastructure has been designed in order to cope with the emerging market requirements for satellite communications services: mobility and full coverage of remote or underdeveloped areas.This new concept has been for the first time introduced as a logical extension of a European LMSS for the provision of closed user group voice/data services.The idea behind this new concept is that of a flexible infrastructure able to provide mobile,transportable and fixed personal satellite services using a system that is optimized for the European region in terms of cost/quality to the users.A new network architecture, a new accessing technique (BLQS-CDMA) and a full digital modular implementation technique have been proposed and,in the second half of 1991 the experimental viability of such a technique will be experimentally tested and later trialed in Europe.
