This paper analyses and designs a switching control strategy for a bidirectional DC/DC converter based on a hysteresis-type control. The purpose of the controller is to control the power that the Ultra-Capacitor (UC) have to deliver or absorb according to the reference generated by an Energy Management System (EMS). Its efficacy is tested in regards to PI traditional controllers in order to highlight its high speed of dynamic response without generating overshoots avoiding stress on the components. The approach uses switched linear model instead of average model, therefore the use of techniques such as PWM can be avoided. Finally, simulations using the Matlab/Simulink environment, was carried out to demonstrate the proposed controller effectiveness, it can be observed that hysteresis-type controller performance is better than the PI traditional controller.
