A new hybrid predictive coding scheme for lossless datarncompression is introduced and studied here. The proposedrnscheme attempts to improve the compression performancernof a conventional adaptive predictive coder by incorporatingrnthree levels of prediction. The first level estimates andrnremoves a time-varying mean signal. The second level usesrnDFT and IDFT to estimate and remove the predictable highrnfrequency subband component of the signal, whereas thernthird level performs the adaptive predictive coding of thernsmoothed signal. Experimental results based on a group ofrntest signals seem to indicate that the proposed hybridrnscheme can significantly improve the lossless compressionrnachievable using a conventional adaptive predictive coder.
