Galvanic distortion, which is caused by shallow small-scale inhomogeneities, has long been recognizedrnas an obstacle in magnetotelluric (MT) sounding study. Removing or at least mitigating it from field data isrnessential to deriving reliable underground electrical information. In spite of the prevalence ofrnthree-dimensional (3-D) MT inversion, little attention has been devoted to appropriately accounting for therneffects of galvanic distortion in 3-D regional structure. In this paper, we developed an Adaptive Galvanicrndistortion Suppression Algorithm (AGSA) in 3-D inversion to recover 3-D regional resistivity structure whenrndata is seriously distorted.
