In order to better understand the hydrodynamic differences between disk and donut strippers with and without vent holes, computational fluid dynamic (CFD) models using CPFD-Software's Barracuda(R) were used.Barracuda(R) is a Multiphase Particle-in-Cell (MP-PIC), Lagrangian-Eulerian hybrid code that is capable of tracking the entire particle size distribution [Snider].Thus, it is well suited for modeling fluidized catalytic cracking and coking unit operations where the fines levels are known to have an effect on the hydrodynamics [Beetstra, et al.].
