PROBLEMS AND PERSPECTIVES OP MECHANIZATION OF SUGARCANE HARVESTING

In sugarcane agriculture, mechanization is limited up to the land preparation and to some extent to intercultural operations. The most laborious and tedious task of sugarcane farming is harvesting. Many large scale and medium scale harvesters are being introduced in the sugar industry to overcome the shortage of harvesting labour, discounting proper evaluation of their effect on the sugarcane and sugar productivity. This paper will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using these machines in order to facilitate the small farmer to overcome the problem of sugarcane harvesting.
