USING WIZARD OF OZ TO COLLECT INTERACTION DATA FOR VOICE CONTROLLED HOME CARE AND COMMUNICATION SERVICES

This research aims at providing Voice controlled Assistivern(vAssist) Care and Communication Services for thernHome to seniors suffering from fine-motor problems and/orrnchronic diseases. The constantly growing life expectancyrnof the European population increasingly asks for technologicalrnproducts that help seniors to manage their activitiesrnof daily living. In particular, we require solutions whichrnoffer interaction paradigms that fit the cognitive abilities ofrnelderly users. Natural language-based access can be seenrnas one way of increasing the usability of these services.rnYet, the construction of robust language technologies suchrnas Automatic Speech Recognition and Natural LanguagernUnderstanding does require sufficient domain specific interactionrndata. In this paper we describe how we plan tornobtain the relevant corpus data for a set of different applicationrnscenarios, using the Wizard of Oz (WOZ) prototypingrnmethod. Using a publicly available WOZ tool we discussrnhow the integration of existing language technologies withrna human wizard may help in designing a natural user interfacernfor seniors and how such has the potential to underpinrnan iterative user-centred development process for languagebasedrnapplications.
