The polyploid complex -a new excellent germplasm of Mains Mill

Chromosome number counting conducted in 1999 found a different ploidy (2n=5x=85) existed in the radicle tip of one seed taken from a fruit produced by a 6-year-old tree of Mains xiaojinesis Cheng et Jiang. Sowing all the seed obtained from the same fruit got llseedlings(one raised from the seed with different ploidy and ten from other normal seed). Two years later, the root tips sampled from the eleven 2-year-old seedlings were subjected to chromosome analysis. The results revealed that plant which grew from the with different ploidy contained various ploidy cells such as 3x, 4x, and 5x, the chromosome numbers being 51,68,and 85, respectively. Furthermore, its morphological characters and biological characteristics have been greatly changed. This plant named by us as the ployploid complex owns a lot of advantages in morphological characters and biological characteristics, the polyploid complex maybe a new excellent germplasm of Malus Mill.
