Field investigation showed that Malus sieversii was only distributed in Tianshan Mts. and Tacheng Region in China, covering about 8980ha, and being in discontinuous distribution. The wild fruit forest of Tianshan Mts. is one of the most important parts of warm temperate deciduous broad-leaved forest ecosystem. M. sieversii has been listed as Class II of state endangered plants in China.
