Water tank observations on the CO2 bubble plume characteristics in stagnant sea water with homogeneous density and stratification were conducted.In the observational experiments,runs for different CO2 discharging strengths and ambient sea water with various densities and two layers density stratifications were executed and analyzed.The images of CO2 bubble plume were illuminated by two sets of halogen lamps.And the CCD (Charged-Coupled Detector) digital camera was used to grab the CO2 bubble plume image.We employed MPIV (Matlab Particle Image Velocimetry) software to process the digitized images of CO2 bubble plume.This yielded the results of CO2 bubble plume velocity.The width and the intrusion length occurred in stratified environment of bubble plume were measured by the digital image processing technique.Effects of the plume discharging strength and ambient sea water density stratification on the plume characteristics are presented.
