OXYGEN ENRICHMENT FOR MACT COMPLIANCE AT DUPONT LAPORTE CENTRAL SCRUBBED INCINERATOR

The DuPont LaPorte Plant Central Scrubbed Incinerator (CSI) is the last DuPont cylindrical cyclonic incineratorrnin operation. Since start up in 1974, CSI has processed a wide variety of liquid waste streams and flow rates atrnvery low cost. However, in its original configuration, CSI was not capable of meeting the new MACT standards. Inrnaddition, the DuPont LaPorte Plant has shut down three other hazardous waste incinerators and consolidated allrnwaste in the CSI. The challenge for CSI was to meet the new MACT standards and increase throughput at the samerntime. It was believed that by taking advantage of the unique characteristics of a DuPont Cyclonic incinerator andrnby adding oxygen enrichment these goals could be met. Preliminary testing suggests that CSI will meet MACTrnstandards for THC and CO. This work eliminates the need to replace the CSI combustor.
