Liquid crystal (LC) lenses with relatively small number of multiple ring electrodes and a circular electrodeinside coated with highly resistive films on an transparent insulating layer are developed. The interferencefringe images of the LC lens can be observed by a polarizing microscope under cross polarizers. Theoptical phase difference of the LC lens can be estimated by counting the interference fringe. The lens powercan be derived by calculating the phase difference and tuned by arranging the voltages applied across thering electrodes and common electrode.
