Most power supplies that are used in modern equipment such as Computers, Industrial Control Systems, Medical Equipment, Office Equipment and Data Storage Equipment are Switching Power Supplies. Quite often, the end user requires a UPS to provide continuous operation for a while, in case of AC Power failure. What is nice about the Switching Power Supplies is that they will run either with AC or DC power source. When the Switching Power Supplies are running with DC power, the AC power harmonic interference will be eliminated, and the safety and stability of the system will increase. This "new concept" of UPS is where the output is DC power, not AC power. This UPS performance and characteristic is the same as a conventional UPS but the cost, weight, volume and component count will be less. The power loss will only be 10-15% of the conventional UPS and the efficiency will approach 98% compared to only 50% for the conventional UPS which will save energy, increase reliability, and reduce cost and size.
