Gunning for Thermal Batteries: High Rate Charge/Discharge Lithium Ion Batteries

T/J Technologies is developing high charge/discharge rate devices as prospective alternatives to thermal batteries. T/J has demonstrated batteries based on the lithium iron phosphate/ lithium titanate architecture capable of appreciable charge and discharge capacities at rates up to 300C. This is equivalent to a 12 sec discharge, approaching the pulse rate of a supercapacitor. With power density of this magnitude, it follows that replacement of select thermal batteries is within the realm of possibility for these devices.
