In a typical nuclear power plant the overall cycle performance is critically dependenton the interactions between the turbine and Moisture Separator Reheaters (MSRs). The Olkiluotorn1-2rnproject in Finland provides an ideal illustration of how, when MSR replacements are beingrnconsidered, the opportunity exists to optimize economic benefits by combining the new MSRrnscope with an HP turbine retrofit. This optimization work requires both detailed knowledge ofrnindividual component performance and a thorough understanding of the process implication implications ofrns introducing major modifications into an existing nuclear turbine cycle.rnIn response to the specified requirements of the plant owner TVO, that the installation outagernduration should be minimized, a contractual commitment to install the retrofit equipment inrnOlkiluoto Unit 2 in only 19 days was made and successfully achieved.rnThis paper describes the technical aspects involved in optimizing the integration of new cyclerncomponents in the Olkiluoto 1-2rnunits together with the project organization, outage planningrnand co-coordinationrnof installation activities onsite required to complete this challenging project.
