The Italian market on the road to Kyoto: expected pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions after the revamping of the thermal generation power park: 1997 vs. 2010

This paper analyses the effect of the radical changes in the Italian electricity generation park on the emissions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases (GHG) by comparing the total emissions from powerrnplants in 1997, before the start of the electricity sector revamping, with the estimated emissions in 2010,rnafter the near completion of the revamping process. The estimated emission levels of air pollutants and GHGs will be compared with national emission ceilings and Kyoto Protocol targets. A final consideration is made on the role of emission trading and flexible mechanisms towards fulfilling the greenhouse gas emission commitments of the Italian Electricity sector.
